How to Order Starbucks Drinks

1. Hot or Iced

Because your barista will write your order on a cup, it’s important to start with if you want your drink hot or iced. The first thing the barista will do is grab either a hot or iced cup.

2. Drink Size

Short: 8 ounces, only available for hot drinks

Tall: 12 ounces, available for both hot or iced drinks

Grande: 16 ounces, available for both hot or iced drinks

Venti: 20 ounces hot, 24 ounces iced 

Trenta: 30 ounces, only available for iced drinks

3. Syrups and Sauces

These are ordered by the number of pumps. If you want an additional pumps of syrup or sauce in your drink, then this is the time to say it.

4. Milk

Starbucks has a number of milk options, but if you don’t specify, your drink will be made with 2% milk.

Frappuccinos are made with whole milk.

Other milk options are nonfat, whole, half & half, heavy cream, almond, soy, coconut, and oat.

Common Customizations

Skinny
If you order a “skinny” version of any latte, the drink will be made with nonfat milk and sugar-free vanilla syrup.

No foam, extra foam or bone dry
The foam on a hot drink made with steamed milk can be customized so it has no foam, extra foam, or bone dry. Bone dry means no steamed milk and it’s just all foam.

Extra hot
Most drinks at Starbucks are served at about 160°F, but you can request for it to be made hotter.

Kid’s temperature
If you don’t like your drink too hot, or if it’s for a child, you can ask for it to be made at kid’s temperature, and it’ll be made at 130°F.

Extra ice or light ice
If you want more ice in your drink, you can ask for extra ice. If you want less ice, ask for light ice.
