A frothy iced drink made with instant coffee.

  • Greek frappe is a popular iced coffee drink in Greece. (It was invented there!)
  • Quick and easy to make at home in less than 30 seconds.
  • Handheld milk frother works the best to create fluffy froth.
  • Made with Nescafe Greek instant coffee which is different than regular instant coffee.

What You’ll Need

Greek Frappe Ingredients

Step-by-Step Instructions

STEP 1: Combine instant coffee, sugar, and water in a tall cup.

2 teaspoons instant coffee, 2 teaspoons sugar, and 2/3 cup cold or cool water goes into a tall glass.

Use a tall glass so there isn’t a mess once the milk frother starts whipping together the ingredients.

STEP 2: Froth coffee.

The best and quickest way to make a Greek frappe is with a handheld milk frother.

After 15 seconds of whipping, froth will reach almost to the top of the glass.

STEP 3: Add ice.

1/2 cup of ice goes into the cup.

STEP 4: Add half & half.

I like the richness of half & half so that’s what I use (1/4 cup) but you can use any kind of milk you like.

Stir before drinking.

Expert Tips

  • Make it decadent by adding a scoop of ice cream instead of milk. (Feel free to take out the sugar in the recipe if you don’t want it too sweet.)
  • Froth instant coffee in a tall cup to prevent making a mess.
  • Use filtered cold or cool water for a better tasting drink.

Questions You May Have

What’s the difference between Greek instant coffee and regular?

Greek instant coffee is spray-dried while regular instant coffee is freeze-dried. Greek instant coffee is easier to froth.

How do you pronounce frappe?

It’s FRAH-PEH.

I don’t have a handheld milk frother — what else can I use?

Put the instant coffee, sugar, and cold or cool water into a cocktail shaker or a jar with a tight lid and shake until it thickens and froths. (Should take less than a minute.)

What else can I sweeten the drink with?

Sometimes I get lazy and whip the instant coffee and water together then add ice and creamer.

Can I make this with less instant coffee?

Yes, I’ve made it with a teaspoon of instant coffee and it’s also good but has a little less of a caffeine kick.
