Starbucks gifts a reusable, collectible red cup every year with a purchase of a holiday drink. Get all the essential info on how to get one this year!
Free Collectible Starbucks Red Cups
At Starbucks, the holiday season starts at the first week of November, when the holiday drinks return.
To celebrate, customers will be gifted a red reusable, collectible holiday cup for FREE with a purchase of a handcrafted holiday drink. It’s offered once a year on one day.
Red cups are plastic, reusable, grande sized cups for hot drinks.
This year, red cup day is on Thursday, November 18, 2021. Mark your calendars! (It was November 4th initially, but there is a delay with the cups so the date got pushed out to the 18th.)
The holiday drinks are still returning on Thursday, November 4th, but red cup day won’t happen until Thursday, November 18th.
Only participating Starbucks in the United States and Canada will have the red cups and until supplies last.
Quantities are limited so it’s better to get there early in the day. And I mean super early. Most stores will likely be out of red cups by noon. Some stores will run out 1-2 hours after opening.
How to Get Red Cups
To get a free reusable red cup, order a handcrafted holiday drink, in any size. It can be hot, iced, or a Frappuccino.
Orders can be made in-store, at the drive-thru, and on mobile orders. Orders can be picked up in stores or through Starbucks Delivers with Uber Eats.
Since red cups are available until supplies last, make sure you ask if they have any red cups left if you’re only ordering a holiday drink to get the red cup.
Questions to ask at Starbucks to get a red cup:
- “Do you have any red cups left?”
Supplies are limited and every store gets a different number of cups so some stores will run of the red cups faster than others. Once they’re out, they’re out.
- “Can I get a red cup with this drink?”
Holiday drinks, including pumpkin spice and regular hot chocolate can be ordered to get a red cup but it’s a good idea to double check with the barista to see if your drink qualifies.
NOTE: Please don’t yell at the baristas if they run out of red cups. Red cup day is a super busy day (as you can imagine) and they’re not the ones in control of how many red cups their store gets.

Holiday Paper Cups
With the launch of the holiday drinks, Starbucks kicks off the season with holiday paper cups. The classic white Starbucks cups are gone for a while, and only the holiday cups are used for hot drinks.
There are new holiday cup designs that are unveiled every year and they’re not announced until the day before they start serving them in stores.
This year, there are 4 holiday cup designs, with bright red, green, white, and lilac colors on each one. Each cup has a gift tag design on the back, so you can gift a drink.
