Nespresso Machine Notes
A Nespresso machine is the easiest way to recreate delicious Starbucks drinks at home.
1 shot of espresso = 1 Nespresso espresso capsule
To make a 16 ounce (grande) Starbucks drink, you’ll need 2 Nespresso espresso or ristretto capsules. You can also use 1 Vertuo double espresso capsule.
Each espresso capsule makes 1.35 ounces, which can be considered an espresso shot. Ristretto capsules make 0.84 ounces, which is a little less than an espresso shot. Double espresso capsules make 2.7 ounces.
With the Vertuo machine capsules, do not the coffee/mug capsules that make 7.77 ounces.
Any espresso capsule from Nespresso can be used for this recipe but to get the drink to taste the closest to Starbucks, try these:
Starbucks Blonde Espresso Roast
Nespresso Vertuo capsules
Nespresso Original capsules
Note: More popular than the Starbucks Espresso Roast capsules.

Expert Tips
- Milk will increase in volume when steamed or frothed, so to get 1 ½ cups of frothed milk for this recipe, use 1 cup of cold milk.
- Cinnamon syrup tastes like cinnamon sweetened with brown sugar and my homemade cinnamon syrup is made with those ingredients. It’s super easy to make at home and costs much less than buying it.
- The vanilla syrup is used only in the whipped cream so if you want to use less ingredients, swap out the vanilla syrup and use the cinnamon syrup to make the whipped cream.
- Instant coffee can be used if you don’t have espresso. Combine 1 tablespoon of instant coffee and 1/4 cup hot water to replace the 2 shots of espresso in the recipe.
Questions You May Have
Yes, there’s caffeine from the espresso. In the Starbucks Blonde Espresso Roast Nespresso capsule, there’s 80 mg of caffeine. For this recipe, 2 capsules are used, making it 160 mg of caffeine in each serving.
Combine warm, frothed milk and cinnamon syrup then top the drink with the cinnamon sugar to make a caffeine-free drink.
Cinnamon Dolce translates to “sweet cinnamon.” It’s an espresso drink sweetened with a cinnamon simple syrup.
