Ingredient Notes
- Cold brew coffee: Strong coffee made in a coffee machine or espresso will work too if you don’t have any cold brew. (Get my recipe to make cold brew coffee at home.)
- Chocolate syrup: A great shortcut to making iced mocha at home. Make it at home using my simple recipe or buy it.
- Milk: Any kind of milk will work from whole to oat.
- Ice: I like to make ice using filtered water.
Here’s a quick overview of the steps to make this drink. For full ingredients and instructions, scroll to the bottom.
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Shake coffee and chocolate syrup in a cocktail shaker.
No cocktail shaker? No problem. Use any airtight container like a jar with a tight-fitting lid or a wide-mouth water bottle.
Step 2: Pour mocha into a cup with milk and ice.
Serving Suggestions
Serve in a glass cup with milk and ice and watch the mocha swirls as you pour from the cocktail shaker.
To make this drink decadent, top it off with whipped cream by whisking together 1/4 cup heavy cream and 2 teaspoons sugar (for 1 serving) then drizzle on some chocolate syrup. A handheld milk frother is the perfect tool to make the whipped cream.
Cold Brew Substitutions
- Cold brew coffee
This is my preference so if you have the time, make cold brew first, then make this drink. The cold brew does take time (12+ hours) but it’s super easy and delicious. See my cold brew recipe. - Strong coffee made in a coffee machine
Use a coffee machine to make strong coffee (2-3 tablespoons of ground coffee to make a cup) and cool it down quickly in the freezer for about 15 minutes. - Espresso
If you have an espresso machine (lucky you!) add a shot of espresso. Instead of using a cocktail shaker, you can just stir the chocolate syrup into the hot espresso until the syrup dissolves into the espresso. - Instant coffee
Have some instant coffee left over from making Dalgona coffee? Combine 1 teaspoon of instant coffee and 1 tablespoon of hot water then stir in the chocolate syrup until the syrup dissolves.
