Drinks made with chocolate are some of the most popular and it’s in a number of drinks on the Starbucks menu and secret menu.
Besides the classic pairing of chocolate and coffee in mocha, chocolate is in hot and iced drinks without coffee like hot chocolate.

5 Ways to Add Chocolate to a Drink
1. Mocha sauce/drizzle
Most drinks with chocolate get their flavor from the mocha sauce.
There’s no dairy or coffee in the mocha sauce and it’s vegan.
The mocha drizzle on top of drink with whipped cream is the same mocha sauce used to flavor drinks.
Add mocha sauce in any drink you want to add chocolate.
2. Frappuccino chips
Frappuccino chips, sometimes called java chips, are basically chocolate chips that contain cookie crumbs and they add extra chocolate to any blended drink.
3. Chocolate malt powder
This malt powder is used to make just one drink on the menu, the Iced Chocolate Almondmilk Shaken Espresso.
Try getting your iced shaken espresso, cold brew, iced latte, or a Frappuccino with chocolate malt powder and vanilla bean powder for a tasty chocolate drink.
4. Chocolate cookie grind topping
This chocolate cookie crumble topping is used on the Mocha Cookie Crumble Frappuccino and Chocolate Cookie Crumble Crème Frappuccino.
Top it on any drink to give it an extra sweet and chocolate-y touch.
5. Chocolate cold foam (Secret menu)
Add mocha or chocolate malt powder to vanilla sweet cream cold foam to create a customized cold foam for iced drinks.
Note: There’s also the dark chocolate mocha sauce but it’s only available at Starbucks Reserve locations.

Tips on Ordering Chocolate Drinks
- If a drink already comes with mocha sauce, Starbucks does not charge extra for more mocha.
- White chocolate mocha sauce and mocha sauce can be mixed or interchanged at no extra cost, but chocolate cannot be combined or substituted for a flavored syrup like hazelnut without an extra charge.
- Secret menu items aren’t always known by baristas, so it’s best to order in person and with an exact list of what ingredients should go in the drink. Ordering a Kit Kat Frappuccino might not mean anything to the barista if it’s not on the official menu since they’re not trained to make them.
- Mocha sauce is made with bittersweet chocolate, so it’s not very sweet. To make your drink sweeter, try adding vanilla syrup or white chocolate mocha sauce.

If a drink doesn’t have chocolate to begin with, there is an extra charge. If a drink does have chocolate (like a Mocha), asking for extra chocolate doesn’t cost more.
A short (8 ounces) Mocha is made with 2 pumps of mocha sauce, a tall (12 ounces) has 3 pumps, grande (16 ounces) has 4 pumps, and a venti (20 ounces) has 5 pumps.
Since the mocha sauce is bittersweet, try adding 1-2 pumps of white chocolate mocha sauce, which is a lot sweeter.
